The highest room of Morgan’s wizard tower. The young mage comes here every day at precisely three in the morning, when mana currents are at their strongest.
I only know that because he talks to himself, out loud… constantly. Of all the people alive vulnerable to demonic possession, why was I assigned this one?
“Because the last one we gave you didn’t go so well, did it?”
I felt a chill run through my spine as Hades appeared next to me.
“It always scares me when you do that,” I said.
“And I’ll keep doing it until it stops being funny.”
“All the souls in hell and yet you torment me?” I asked.
“Don’t worry. I torment them, too,” he said with a wink.
The sound of an hourly belltower could be heard in the distance, and at that exact moment Morgan came into the room with us. He looked at us, though he didn’t actually see us. We cannot be perceived by the eyes of normal men. That said, he does seem suspicious…
With an unsettled look he turned to his work, as he always does.
“Anyway, it won’t go like last time,” I said.
“It had damn well better not,” he said.
“What was I supposed to do? An exorcist showed up within days of the possession!”
“Right. I understand that. But maybe-” He clasped his hands in front of his lips and spoke slowly, “-Maybe this time you don’t storm around town declaring that you, Daemon, had “possessed this foolish mortal, and demand that-”
“-Ok ok! Got it. It was an honest mistake. I’ve learned,” I interrupted.
“Hm. I have my doubts,” he said. “But we’ll see.”
“Cah-Feren Da-shawa~...” Morgan began to chant.
“Now is probably a good time,” Hades said.
“Are humans vulnerable during rituals?” I asked.
“Hm? Uh, no I don’t think so. But I’ve got a pizza on the way. It’s gonna be here soon…. Let’s hurry this up.”
“Didn’t know we had a pizza service in hell.” I said.
“Being a delivery driver is hell. I make bad tippers do it for eternity,” he explained nonchalantly.
That’s why he’s the king of hell. So inspiring. If I can be half as evil as him, I’ll be twice the demon any of the others ever were.
“Ok seriously possess him man, I’ve got things to do.”
“Got it!” I yelled as I dove into Morgan’s body.
Just like last time, I felt his essence begin to flood my senses. I could feel his mind, body, and spirit floating all around me. Also there was the faint smell of potato chips but I’ll worry about that later. His emotions began to flow into me, and at first he felt my presence and believed he had received some unexpected dark power, but he quickly began to realize that something was very wrong.
But it was too late for him. As I began to feel his fingers as my own, I knew he had lost them. Soon his arms, legs, and body were mine to command. The last thing I felt of who he is… Who he was… was the fleeting feeling of panic as his heart was lost to him.
“Now, Morgan, your body is mine. I, Daemon, now RULE OVER YOU AND-”
“-ok ok wrap it up.” Hades said.
“But… I was gonna do the evil laughter bit…” I pleaded.
“Guy, work with me. Can we do this later?”
“Yea…” I said.
“...You’re gonna mope like that if we don’t laugh aren’t you?”
“...yea…S’just,” Sniff. “I spent a lot of time fleshing it out, you know?”
“Whatever let’s just do it already,” he relented.
“Muahahahahahahah!! Ha! Hahaha! HaaAaaAAaaaa! Mua-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaahhhhhhhhh…” I clutched the ending with a somber fade away. Classic.
“Alright, very good job Daemon. Now, to help you along I want you to have this.” He haded me a book that read: ‘Practical Possession - A Beginners Guide to Becoming Someones' Inner Demon.’
“Follow that to the letter and this should all go swell,” he said.
“Can I get a hardback copy? This one is sort of… Flimsy,” I said.
“You’re sort of flimsy, Daemon. Just read the damned book!” He shouted as a fiery gate to hell opened behind him and he backed into it. His eyes were cut as he stared angrily at me until the gate closed.
Last time I let my excitement get the better of me, but now I have to be a bit more careful about how I go about this.
The first thing they taught us in demon prep school was to be subtle. Try to assume the role of the person you’ve possessed, first. I suppose I should try to be more like Morgan for a while until I get the hang of it.
I looked over to a table of his filled with books he had written. I suppose I should start there. I released the tension in my knees and allowed my wings to carry me to the table.
Only I don’t have wings anymore.
And also I’ve now fallen to the floor and bashed my head against a chair.
And now I believe I might be unconscious.
If you liked it, leave a comment at the bottom, please. I have no way of knowing if people are reading and enjoying any of this otherwise!
Our story begins as Morgan DuPere' is possessed by Daemon... Daemon the Demon, during one of his many magical experimentation's.
As this is only Daemon's second time possessing someone, he hasn't quite gotten a feel for how to go about it. He is soon visited by Hades, his immediate supervisor, and given a book: "Practical Possession - A Beginners Guide to Becoming Someones' Inner Demon."
Now armed with proper instructions and an encouraging pat on the back from the CEO of hell himself, Daemon sets off to commit some of the darkest acts he can possibly fathom.
